Charkha & Loom began with our founder Sweta's passion for slow fashion and quality handcrafted clothing. Born and raised in India, heritage textiles were woven into the fabric of her life.
Over the last decade, she traveled across continents and built a life in Europe, discovering the historical connections between Indian textiles and the rest of the world, like Batik printing in Ghana and Indonesia, and the Ambi print known as Paisley in Europe. Sweta yearned for a connection to the beauty and craftsmanship she cherished. On every visit home, she’d bring back unique pieces as a reminder of the magic she missed.
This yearning resonated with others. The appreciation for the textiles Sweta wore, coupled with the shared disappointment at their local scarcity, ignited a spark. In 2024, Charkha & Loom was born, blending tradition with modernity to bring these cherished crafts to the world.

self-sufficiency, dating back to the 1200s for spinning cotton and threads. The Loom (pronounced
kər-gə, करघा) works alongside the Charkha, representing the art of weaving threads into fabric.
